The MOVE Programme works in the area of domestic violence, with a primary aim of supporting the safety and wellbeing of women and their children who are experiencing, or have experienced violence/abuse in an intimate relationship. MOVE does this by facilitating men in a weekly group process that involves them taking responsibility for their violence and changing their attitude and behaviour. Move programmes are run in small groups of 6-8 men so that men have a chance to learn from one another and support each other. The weekly sessions last approximately two hours where men attend for a minimum of 6 months. It is important that men demonstrate their commitment to the programme and changing their behaviour by attending the whole programme.
The MOVE Programme also offers ‘Partner contact’ to the partner’s of perpetrator programme participants pro-active external support on a one to one basis, before, during and after their partner attends a programme. MOVE Partner Contact enables women to understand something about the material covered in the; provides information about domestic violence; provides safety planning; holds men accountable for their behaviour and ensures the effects of the programme are measured in terms of the woman partners freedom, safety.
