How to refer
The men who participate in the programme come from a variety of backgrounds. All of them have admitted to a pattern of violence towards to a partner.
Some group members got in touch with MOVE themselves because they want to change. Some have been referred by their partner or by a professional that they know. Some members of the group may have been required to attend as a condition of a court order.
To join one of the groups
To join one of the groups, or to refer someone to MOVE, all you have to do is telephone one of the numbers provided on the 'contact us' page or download the relevant referral application form listed below and either return it to us by post at the address provided on the form or simply drop it in your local MOVE group.
You will be sent an application and an assessment form to complete. Someone from MOVE will arrange to meet with the prospective group member and explore in some detail their history of violence.
They will also be asked to give details regarding their partner or ex-partner, so that the partner can be offered support during the programme and can understand something about the material covered in the group.
Inter-Agency Referrals
MOVE welcomes referrals from professionals who may be working with family members in a child protection, community care, health or other context i.e. social workers or other HSE roles, and, similarly within the justice system i.e. Probation Officers and the courts.
Assessment
Prospective participants will be assessed as to their suitability for a programme. If accepted onto the programme links should ideally be maintained to support accountability and the continued process of change.
Please Note:
Perpetrator Programmes should NOT be used as an ALTERNATIVE to domestic violence orders or sanctions in criminal proceedings but can be used as part of these sanctions.
